The South East Lions’ season is off to the perfect start. Having been promoted to Division Three, the joint women’s team of Enniscorthy RFC and Wexford Wanderers RFC has high hopes for the season. 

Playing Longford away last weekend and racking up an incredible 50 points on the board , they walked away with a 50-10 victory. More impressively they had seven girls get caps at adult level.

Originally due to play Kilkenny RFC in the first game of the season, the postponed round one game was moved from Alcast Park to O’Driscoll Park to be part of a triple header with Wexford Wanderers’ J1s and J2s also playing Kilkenny. 

The Lions set down an early marker with two tries for Megan Dee, her sister Clodagh slotting both conversions over. Kilkenny answered the initial Lions’ pressure with their own try and conversion. It wasn’t long after this Lions captain Seana Kane touched down over the whitewash. Clodagh slotted the conversion over to go three from three off the tee. As half time approached Kilkenny got an unconverted try but the Lions went in at the break happy with 21-12 lead. 

The second half was all Lions, three tries from Rachel Dempsey, Lilly Sidney and Caoimhe Reville in comparison to Kilkenny’s one, secured the win and the bonus point. 

Solid performances in both their opening games sees them take the maximum ten points and sit top of the table level with Edenderry. Their next game is Sunday, 20th October in Alcast Park against Edenderry RFC, in a top of the table clash.
